Valentine card
Printmaker: Unknown
Silvered lace-paper mounted with a white silk oval panel onto which a large anchor (signifying 'hope'; a common motif in valentines) is mounted which is fashioned from gilt foil mounts set with 11 small periwinkle shells (4 missing) and with a 'chain' of small, false pearls. The panel is edged with large, white gauze leaves and with an additional outer border of die-cut white paper foliage. A collage of brightly coloured leaves and flowers is set at lower centre of the silk panel, partially obscured by the gauze leaves. Just below this is a chromolithographed, die-cut posy of flowers, shot through with Cupid's golden arrow and with the motto: 'Love'. The interior of the card is blank.
