Valentine card
Printmaker: Unknown
Valentine card of cream laid paper, roughly 8vo size with a lithograph of black ink (uncoloured). A scene within an oval medallion at upper centre shows a couple in regency dress walking hand-in-hand through a garden and passing by a row of beehives, the gentleman gesturing towards them. A verse printed below: "Full oft, my love, the moral page / Persuades us mark the careful bee, / And oft' I've heard the hoary Sage / Commend its useful industry …". The inside pages are blank. One of a series of cards on cream laid paper with uncoloured lithographs, apparently all later reprints, the designs possibly taken from collections of love poetry published in the early nineteenth century by James Kendrew of York, and mounted in album P.14348-R.
