Valentine card
Printmaker: Unknown
Valentine card of cream laid paper, roughly 8vo size with a lithograph of black ink (uncoloured). A central vignette of a couple dressed in regency costume walking arm-in-arm along a path. Both figures are looking behind them towards the right. A church is seen in the distance on the left. A printed verse above and below: "By heav'n I love you! I care not who knows it, / I cannot disguise it, for every Act shows it: ...". The inside pages are blank. One of a series of cards on cream laid paper with uncoloured lithographs, apparently all later reprints, the designs possibly taken from collections of love poetry published in the early nineteenth century by James Kendrew of York, and mounted in album P.14348-R. This is very similar in style and design to P.14348-R-8 and must be from the same series.
