A good example of a comparatively early type of the Duplex watch, in silver case.
MOVEMENT: Full plate movement engraved 'Jessop Southampton Street London No 2143' and 'Jessop London No 2143' on cap. Balance cock with circular table pierced and engraved. Mask at neck, large blued steel end piece and large rose cut diamond (?) end stone, cock foot engraved. Polished steel balance. Slide plate engraved, silver regulator dial marked 5 to 30 in Arabic figures. Pierced fusee iron post. Polished maintaining click and blued click spring. Polished case bolt with side arms, potance foot with moulding at end screwed to plate. Counter-potance riveted to plate. Joint with ears to protect end of barrel. Pillar plate with four turned pillars ringed and tapered at ends, centre wheel recessed, third wheel bar. Scratched on pillar plate under dial 'March 29 1838 WHP' and on third wheel bridge '69Le' or hj 69'. Going fusee and chain, set-up ratchet under dial, barrel with one lip. Duplex escapement with jewelled locking roller. Four impulse pins broken off the escape wheel.
DIAL: White convex enamel on copper. Dotted minute ring with quarter stars, 5 minute dots between two circles, radial Roman chapters.
HANDS: Blued steel spade and poker.
CAP: Gilt brass with large hole to display end stone, winding pipe. Inside stamped with a fleur-de-lis maker's mark.
CASE: Silver, double-back. Opening back and front, with no inner bottom. Dome cut out for cap. Back HM LONDON 1812. Small second crowned leopard's head stamp, incise 'IG' maker's mark. Scratched marks '518+, XIX/-.' Case body with lion stamp inside edge of dome. Bezel stamped with lion and 'R'. Pendant with concave faces, front surface of pendant stamped, incuse 'TO', and rear surface with crowned leopard's head and lion. Bow with bulb ends.
