Description

Stoneware 'boite noire' with four feet. Heavy squared container with a cavity in the upper part of one side, covered with a 'door' secured by an iron nail through lugs. The sides and base are scribed with fine paralled lines (wire brushed?) showing iridescence. Somewhat domed top, with a smooth tobacco coloured glaze.

History note: Bought by Shakeshaft from the 'Pots from France' exhibition, held biannually by Jack Blackburn of Youlgreave. 11th September 1998
