Description

Meiping, monochrome vase. Buff earthenware, thrown in sections and covered in aubergine glaze. The vase has high shoulders, small neck and slightly everted mouth rim. The splayed foot and the recessed, flat base is painted brown. The body of the vase has horizontal lines from the wheel circle, and is covered in aubergine-colour glaze.

History note: Purchased from Sotheby's, 2 November 1933, for £3.0s.0d, Catalogue of European & Oriental Porcelain...,Lot 26; Henry Scipio Reitlinger (d. 1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
