Plate. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue. The shallow plate has rounded sides springing from a low, slightly tapered foot and rising to a narrow, flattened, foliate rim. The interior well is decorated with a stylised phoenix (Fenghuang) and foliage within a lined border. The rim is painted with precious objects within single-line borders. The exterior is painted with a band of scrolling foliage within double and single-line borders and an abstract band within a single-line border.
History note: Formerly Sydney Vacher Collection; Henry Scipio Reitlinger (d. 1950); the Reitlinger Trust, Maidenhead, from which transferred in 1991.
