Baluster vase

Baluster vase. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue. The vase has a short, cylindrical neck, rounded shoulders and ovoid body tapering to a ridge above the splayed foot. The base is flat, recessed, and glazed. The neck is decorated with scrolling foliage and peony heads above three bands of incised lotus petals, containing peony and lotus heads and dense foliage (a shallow band circling the shoulders and base and a deep band circling the body). Beneath the ridge is a hatched pattern, and on the splayed foot is stylised foliage.
