Description

Cylindrical jar and (possibly associated) cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted in underglaze blue. The jar has a wide mouth, low rim, rounded shoulders and straight sides tapering to a low foot with recessed, glazed base. The rounded cover has a bud-shaped finial. Three single lines encircle the neck, with a border of lotus petals below. The body is decorated with a continuous scene showing a pavilion, seated sage, boy with a buffalo, a river and a lady in landscape, above three single lines encircling the foot. The cover has four lappets of flower heads divided by cloud scrolls.
