Description

Double gourd vase. Buff stoneware, thrown in sections and turned, covered in white slip, incised and painted in modulated shades of iron-brown with sgraffito under a clear glaze. The double gourd vase has a small, tapered neck with no mouth rim. The footrim is slightly flared; the glazed base is slightly recessed and flat. The white slip stops short of the footrim, the glaze covers the gourd down to the base. The upper gourd is decorated with iris and leaves painted in brown, and the lower gourd painted with prunus in brown.
