Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A valentine card converted for use as at Christmas on gilded, embossed paper mounted with paper springs onto a backing card with scalloped edges and a green printed border. The card has been converted into a Christmas card by the addition of grasses to make a greenery frame sprinkled with mica frosting (silicate of aluminium) to imitate snow. A central, lace-paper gilded gateway panel opens with a white ribbon tab to reveal a lithograph of a printed scroll of verse: 'Happy Christmas / Christmas garlands round each rafter / Holly, ivy, mistletoe! ... copyright / H.I.N.' A lithographic cut-out of a bird with a nest entwined with forget-me-nots, a typical valentine scrap, is loose inside the gateway panel.
