Valentine card
Publisher: Mansell, Joseph
Lace-paper front from a Valentine card. Lace-paper torn at the lower right corner. A central panel with a scalloped edge and a hand-coloured pink rose which opens out to reveal a printed message in blue ink (as handwritten): 'Queen of the flowers / beauteous Rose / What varied charms / thy looks disclose / the blush upon / the petals here / is like the cheek / of one most dear'. The stalk and leaves of the rose are hand-painted and there are also two larger fabric leaves. There are traces of glue in the shape of a flower bud at the bottom of the stalk. MANSELL is blind-embossed onto the paper at lower centre.
