Valentine card
Publisher: Dobbs, Henry
Lace-paper with a centrepiece of a cut-out engraved and hand-coloured terracotta pot containing a chromolithographed scrap of a forget-me-not plant with hand-stencilled additions in watercolour and bodycolour. Hand-shading in graphite around the base of the pot. A hand-written inscription in red ink above: "A thriving plant for you (the plant lifts up to reveal the word) / affection". The inside of the card is blank. DOBBS, KIDD & CO. blind-stamped at lower centre (visible from the verso). The firm of Henry Dobbs traded as Dobbs, Kidd & Co. from 1851 into the 1890s.
