Description

A lace-paper-edged rice-paper panel with a printed design of leaves and stems and printed cut-outs of morning-glory flowers in coloured satin pasted onto them. A printed, calligraphic motto below: 'Souvenir'. Although no maker's stamp can be found, the description of a valentine listed in an advertising leaflet for Rimmel's Perfumed Valentines of 1872, would seem to be comparable: 'The Souvenir Valentine / A pretty satin bouquet on rice paper, 2/6 & 5/'.
