Description

Found loose inside P.14344 inbetween P.14344-R-39 and P.14344-R-40. A lace-paper border around a central rectangular window with lace 'fretwork' corners and lower edge. The window is backed with net and mounted with a rice-paper oak leaf which is printed and hand-coloured with garlands of leaves and pink and purple flowers forming the word: "Constancy". A white satin ribbon bow 'ties' the oak leaf to the left edge of the window. A sprig of dark green coloured cut-paper leaves is affixed to the net at lower centre. A blue satin ribbon is pasted along the spine of the card at the left. Inside, a lace-paper backing with a central silk-backed panel which is decorated with a collage wreath of white cut-paper foliage and white fabric leaves. Two 'pairs' of gloves on blue embossed paper are affixed at upper and lower centre. Each pair opens to reveal a printed verse in blue ink; upper pair: "Please to imagine, lady fair ..." (The same verse that is seen inside the gloves, P.14344-R-45); lower pair: "Forever thine whate'er this heart betide ...". DOBBS KIDD blind-embossed at lower centre of backing paper, visible from the verso. Two spots of adhesive on the verso indicate that P.14344-R-L2 was formerly mounted.
