Description

Triple gourd vase, part of a garniture of vases. Hard-paste porcelain, decorated in underglaze blue and famille verte enamels, with cylindrical neck and trumpet-shape mouth; the largest bulb tapers into a slightly flared foot with flat, recessed base. The foot and three waists have bands of gilding; peony heads and scrolls in gilt decorate the powder blue. The largest bulb has two quatrefoil reserves, one containing two birds, flowering prunus branch and leaves, and the other a lotus pond with two ducks; the middle bulb has two fan-shaped reserves decorated with flowers, and the top bulb four gilded flower heads.
