Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
Comic valentine. A hand-coloured woodcut on thin white wove paper. A woman wearing a crinoline is lifting it up exposing her legs. She has a very pronounced décolletage and her hair is loose around her shoulders. A speech bubble from her mouth: "Oh the mouse". A man standing next to her has his eyes riveted on her breasts. A printed verse below: "I know full well the wanton plan, / On which you would entrap each man, / Trying some impudent pretence / That would be scorned by men of sense". On the verso is a printed newspaper article entitled "The Ladies' Mousetrap", which has been cut out and pasted onto the paper. It recounts the tale of how a mouse hid away inside a young lady's crinoline.
