Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
Comic valentine (potman). A hand coloured woodcut on very thin wove paper, which is folded in half to create an inside page (blank). The hand colouring is crudely executed. A male figure with an over-sized head who carries a collection of tankards over his right shoulder and a trug of them in his left hand; georgian buildings in the background. A printed verse below: "Ill-looking potman! man of beer! / With your spindle legs, and your ugly leer ; / You need not think, (though on a sunday so fine), / That I should e'er be your Valentine". A graphite inscription at upper right: "24 for 6 / -" [6 shillings]. From a series of comic figures.
