Description

Comic valentine entitled, VELOCIPEDE. Lampoons the new fashion among young women for riding the velocipede (forerunner of the bicycle). A hand-coloured woodcut on one leaf of thin, wove paper. A young woman sits astride a velocipede. A printed verse below: " The last style for girls, now just see, / Velocipede striding you'll own, ..." Velocipedes with pedals, as seen here, appeared c. 1869.
