Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
Comic valentine (travelling salesman). A hand-coloured woodcut on white laid paper, folded and with a blank inside page. Evidence of binding along the left edge suggest that it has been taken from a book. A bearded man wearing a top hat and frock coat, his chest puffed out and with an imperious air. He carries a green carpet bag in his left hand. An omnibus marked "2" stands waiting in the background. A printed verse below: "The Man with the CARPET BAG - what has he? / A trifle of Herrings and sugar and tea - / Some ounces of starch - and it may be a roll / To tickle his wife's - unfortunate jowl / ... ." Circular blind-stamp containing Prince of Wales feathers at upper left corner.
