Description

Triple gourd vase with ormolu mounts, part of a garniture of vases. Hard-paste porcelain, decorated in underglaze blue and famille verte enamels, with cylindrical neck and trumpet-shape mouth; the largest bulb tapers into a slightly flared foot with flat, recessed base. No gilding. The vase has an ornate ormolu serpent's head handle with acanthus leaves, and lip and four foot stand. The largest bulb has two quatrefoil reserves, one containing lotus and a fish; the other with flowering peony and a butterfly. The middle bulb is decorated with two fan-shaped reserves of flowering prunus and chrysanthemums, and the top bulb has two quatrefoil reserves with a lozenge and pearl motif.
