Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A stencilled border of gold, green and red paint of a design featuring roses, urns, Cupids, birds, lyres and interlocking rings and which is out of register throughout, on 4to-sized white wove paper. At the centre is a hand-coloured, lithographed scene of a couple in a boat being pulled along by two blue birds. Steps lead to a garden scene above with a stone temple into which a door is cut from the paper which opens to reveal Cupid dressed as a solider (this image is pasted to the verso of the front page). A printed verse below: "Here's Cupid in his Sentry Box / And what has placed him there? / To guard the heart of her I love / A Maiden good as fair. ...". The paper is badly stained.
