Description

A hand-coloured woodcut on thin wove paper of two large carnations, the left bearing a female head inside the flower and the right bearing a smaller male head inside the flower. A printed title above: THE PINK OF SINCERITY. Printed below the image: "[[Printed by E. LLOYD, 30, Curtain Road, Shoreditch]]" and a verse printed below this: "Could you the secrets of my heart but know, / Unbounded love for you they'd truly shew, ...". An inscription in graphite at upper left: "No 1 / 9d". A graphite inscription at upper right corner: "1.". The inside pages are blank. From a series published by Lloyd. See also: P.14346-R-31; P.14346-R-33; P.14346-R-34. According to information available at www.edwardlloyd.org, 'Lloyd was registered as a printer in the Middlesex Sessions Records in 1838 at ... Cumberland Place, Curtain Rd, an address that no longer exists'.
