Valentine card

A hand-coloured lithograph within an embossed lace border on 4to-sized, white wove paper. At the centre of the paper, Cupid garlands a column surmounted with a flaming heart. A temple is seen in the background to the left and flowers in the foreground to the right. The scene is bordered with a series of decorative architectural canopies and columns. A verse is printed above and below the central image: "Hope whispere'd to me - not long hence - / That thou hads't honor truth and sense, ...". The style of the image and quality of the lithograph and hand colouring is very similar to that seen in P.14346-R-51. An embossed maker's mark is visible at lower right and could be "RUE" [De La Rue], but is largely indecipherable.
