Description

Loose inside album P.14346-R between nos. 13 and 14. A hand-coloured lithograph with a heavily embossed border on white wove paper. The edges of the paper are gilded. The embossed border features roses, butterflies and the accoutrements of Cupid - flaming torches with quiver and bow. A hand-coloured inner border of stylised shapes in the style of an illuminated manuscript part surrounds a hand-coloured vignette of a couple in an interior admiring an open book emblazoned with a pair of flaming hearts and a bow and arrow. Printed verses below: "Faithful hearts should thus entwine, / Dearest, thus, like thine and mine, / Kindred fancies, soft revealings, / All of loves' most chosen feelings ...". The inside pages are blank. A partly abraded embossed stamp at lower left and lower right: G. KERSHAW / LONDON. From a series. P.14346-R-L9 is a duplicate of the same number from the series. Other numbers from the series are: P.14346-R-L8, P.14346-R-L10 and P.14346-R-L11 (a duplicate of P.14346-R-L8).
