Description

Loose inside the back fly-leaf of album P.14348-R. Page 204 from the periodical, _Bow Bells_ entitled 'HYMEN AND CUPID' which reproduces the drawing _Hymen and Cupid_ by Hogarth. It is mounted onto a 4to-sized sheet of buff-coloured paper. '3.' is written in graphite at the upper right corner. '4.' is written in graphite on the verso at the upper left corner. The cutting is folded over along the top edge, which when pulled back reveals the page number, periodical title and date. P.14348-R-L2 was found loose inside the back fly leaf of album P.14348-R and would appear to have been mounted by the same hand as another print relating to valentines, P.14348-R-23, which is located on the final leaf of this album. Both are mounted onto sheets of 4to-sized buff-coloured paper with graphite numbers at the upper corners, written in the same hand. These inscriptions were probably made by Miss Catherine Parsons who was a close friend of Glaisher towards the end of his life and undertook to arrange and mount his valentine collection into albums from the Autumn of 1924 through to the Summer of the following year and beyond. See letters from Glaisher to Parsons in the Fitzwilliam Museum archive.
