A postcard size valentine of white wove paper with embossed and scalloped edge bordering a chromolithograph of three nesting birds (chaffinch, bullfinch and blackbird) entwined with spring flowers (including bluebells and primroses) and two nests containing eggs. The design is set against a silver background with a verse by Sir Phillip Sydney inset on white at centre right: TO MY TRUE LOVE / My true Love hath my heart, and I have his. ... / SIR P. SYDNEY. MARCUS WARD & CO. printed at lower left. ENT. STA. HALL printed at lower right. An example of this card is in the collection of The Phillips Library at the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts, who date it as 1887 (although without supporting references).
