Description

Raised' valentine with gilt lace-paper frame attached by paper springs to a card of embossed paper with shaped edges, tinted blue. A chromolithograph inserted within the frame of a boy and girl, the boy carrying a pot plant, the girl holding a letter in her left hand. A printed motto: 'Truth'. Embossed stamp at lower centre: 'W G & O D'. The inside pages are blank. A hand-written inscription in black ink on the verso: "To dear Daisy with / Perry's best love." A number "4" written in graphite on the verso. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 65.
