Valentine card

Albumen print of a young girl seated with her right foot resting on a footstool, looking at her hands. The print is framed within an oval of lace paper with lace-paper hearts at the four corners. An embossed chromolithographed scrap of a female head surrounded by flowers at upper centre and an open 'book' at lower centre printed with the message: "May happiness / be / always thine / No stormy days / but ever / bright sunshine". The lace-paper stamped at upper centre (viewed from verso): MEEK. A stamp on the verso of the albumen print: LOESCH[ER] & PETSCH / 114, LEIPZIG-STR. 114 / BERLIN. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 67.
