True Love Valentine envelope
Publisher: Marcus Ward & Co.
A valentine envelope with a chromolithographed design of flowers within a geometric border in pink and silver inks. A verse within an almond-shaped border at the centre: True Love / True Love's wreath / Is of mountain flowers, / They stand the storm, / And brave the blast, ...". MARCUS WARD & CO. printed at lower right. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 61. See also P.14381-R, of the same design but in different colours and with different verse. The envelope contains a ticket for Langton's Pioneer Express, a pony cart passenger and freight service which was founded by Samuel W.
