Valentine card
Publisher: Mansell, Joseph
A 32mo-size card of white wove paper with a shaped, lace-paper border and hand-coloured edges in red. MANSELL embossed at lower centre. At the centre is a 'dressed' or 'paper-doll' valentine comprising a chromolithographic cut-out of a young blonde-haired girl holding a fan in her right hand and with pink roses in her hair and a pleated green striped silk skirt applied below. A chromolithograped motto at lower centre: FORGET ME NOT. The inside pages are blank. Hand-written marks in ink on the verso: "3?/5 [...]" This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 63.
