Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
Steel-engraving and aquatint with hand-colouring on white embossed paper within (tarnished) 'frame' of silver embossed lace-paper with shaped edges. The central engraved image of a couple wearing medieval dress fishing from a riverbank is contained within a border of silvered lace-paper with 'feathered' white silk edges and decorated with an embossed chromolithographed flower scrap. Three cut-out two-dimensional silk bows are applied to the outer 'frame' at upper centre and lower left and right. There is a backing of white laid paper, which is blank. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 17. A graphite number "17" is written onto the album leaf in the lower right-hand corner, which corresponds to the numbering of the catalogue.
