Description

Lace-paper with central pink gauze blind mounted with a collage of white silk leaves, cut-paper and hand-coloured flowers and humming birds with real feather tails. Hand-painted flowers on lace-paper backsheet (viewed through gauze) and hand-written messages at upper and lower centre: "A Tribute of Sincere Affection / Life's fairest lot be thine." The card is mounted on slightly larger sheet of beige paper. Very similar in style to P.14410-R-28. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 37. A graphite number "37" is written onto the album leaf in the lower right-hand corner, which corresponds to the numbering of the catalogue. Possibly by Henry Dobbs. (See notes)
