Description

4to-size white wove paper with embossed border. A lithographed and hand-coloured posy of flowers at the centre (red and pink roses, primulas) which has been cut into a 'cobweb' design. A silk thread lifts to reveal a Cupid taking aim with his arrow at a heart mounted on a garlanded column. The paper has been folded for delivery and an address written on the verso with black sealing wax in tact: "Miss Charlotte Smith / 23 York Street / New Cut / Lambeth". "Paid" written at lower left and stamp of black ink: [?R]O STRAND / 2D PAID. Postmark stamp of red ink bearing date: FE11 / 1837. The same name and address is inscribed on the verso of P.14410-R-52.
