Description

4to-size white embossed paper with hand-coloured edge in pink. A hand-painted panel of embossed rice-paper affixed to the window at the centre (passion flower and pink rose), surrounded by a hand-painted frame in gold ink. DOBBS. LONDON embossed at lower centre. The inside pages are blank. The card is contained within an 'envelope' of cream wove paper with hand-written address and remains of red sealing wax: "Miss Charlotte Smith / 23 York Street / York Road / Lambeth". Initials "P.P." at lower left. Stamp in black ink: "[?P]O.Strand / 2D PAID". Postmark stamp in red ink bearing date: "FE12 / 1838". The same name and address is inscribed on the verso of P.14410-R-48.
