Description

4to-size white lace-paper with hand-painted outlines of lace-paper design throughout (blue, pink, green and gold paint). A central window is backed with a white silk panel with hand-painted posy of flowers, including pink roses, morning glory and forget-me-nots. A collage of cut-paper leaves, green felt buds, silver cut-paper fern fronds and hand-painted striped rose at lower centre. The collage is designed to be lifted up for insertion of a sender's 'secret' message, although the space underneath this collage is blank. The back paper is missing and the lace-paper front sheet mounted directly onto the album leaf. No maker's stamp could be found, although the similarity of the lace-paper and general design to the valentine on hte previous album leaf (P.14411-R-24) suggests Joseph Mansell.
