Valentine card
Printmaker: Gilks, Edward
48mo-size embossed paper (as lace) with frosted surface and window outlined in green with a cellulose blind to show a hand-coloured lithograph by Edward Gilks of a woman in a frilled pink dress holding a straw bonnet in her right hand. The lithograph is printed onto trimmed coated paper with a printed outline around it on the back sheet. A lithographed signature at lower left: E. Gilks [?lith]. Almost identical to an adjacent valentine in the same album (P.14411-R-32) which also incorporates a lithograph by Edward Gilks. Glaisher's collection contains a number of lithographed valentines designs by Edward Gilks, a number of which are mounted in album P.14346-R.
