Valentine card
Publisher: Mossman, David (paper manufacturer and embosser)
Embossed gilt lace-paper, of delicate filigree design incorporating two Cupids (uncoloured) and a central window revealing a gilt lace-paper heart which is mounted onto the back-sheet. A collage of glittered (mica) fabric leaves and embossed chromolithographed roses at lower centre and a scrap of a scroll with the printed motto: "Accept this Gift / & love the giver". The front sheet opens to reveal the heart within a gilt 'picture frame' and lifts to reveal a tinted lithograph in red ink of a couple kneeling on the banks of a stream, a church visible in the background to the right. Graphite inscription on the inside right-hand page at upper right: [...] 5/ [5 shillings]. MOSSMAN stamped along the spine at centre left.
