Description

A 'raised' valentine composed of three layers. The top layer of die-cut perforated and silvered paper is mounted with a collage of fabric leaves, flowers and real quaker grass and frames a central oval window containing a chromolithgraph of a flower bouquet. This is mounted to a second layer of lace-paper with green printed border which is mounted on paper springs to a third layer of cameo-embossed paper in two shades of pink. This paper is stamped '[W]OOD' at lower left. The inside pages are blank. Hand-written inscription in graphite on the album leaf: '2/6' [2 shillings sixpence]. Presumably relates to an inscription found on the verso of the card.
