Description

A 'raised' valentine composed of two layers; a lace-paper frame on die-cut silvered and embossed white coated paper with a real white cotton lace edge affixed around a central oval window and mounted with a collage of real moss and chromolithographed scraps of 'admiral' boy and coquette girl at lower centre. The frame is mounted on paper springs to a second layer of plain embossed paper. A chromolithograph of a flower bouquet is affixed at the centre of the oval window and embossed scraps of a violet flower and motto: 'Truly / thine' at upper and lower centre. The inside pages are blank. Hand-written inscription in graphite on the album leaf: '2/6' [2 shillings sixpence]. Presumably relates to an inscription found on the verso of the card.
