Description

A 'raised' valentine composed of three parts; a silvered, embossed die-cut frame mounted on paper springs to a second layer of plain embossed paper. The frame is decorated with a collage of white fabric leaves and silver embossed foliage and scraps at upper and lower centre. An oval frame of silvered, embossed paper with a real white cotton lace edge attached is mounted at the centre with paper springs. An embossed scrap of a boy carrying a net-bag of oranges is mounted on a paer springs at the centre. A maker's stamp visible but illegible on the verso of the second layer at upper left. The same stamp is also seen on P.14413-R-6. A hand-written inscription in graphite on the album leaf: '3 /' [3 shillings]. This presumably relates to an inscription found on the verso of the card prior to mounting.
