Description

Blue laid paper with green printed edge mounted with a white, embossed lace-paper, cross-cornered frame on paper springs. The frame is mounted with a circular collage of white satin leaves and blue ribbon. A chromolithograph of a mixed flower bouquet at the centre. On the inside right-hand page is a silver lace-paper framed medallion containing a silk panel with a verse printed in purple ink: 'Pensez a Moi / When day is going, / from land and sea / Winds softly blowing, / Then think on me. / Wide are our life ways, / Brighter thy lot, / Think on our childhood's / days - / forget me not.'. A hand-written inscription in black ink at the upper right corner: 'Florence'. A watermark: MARCUS WARD / PURE [Irish harp and crown symbol]. This valentine is listed in a hand-written MS by second-hand bookseller, R.S. Frampton as 'When day is going' and priced at 4/0 [4 shillings]. Glaisher bought many valentines from R.S. Frampton, especially between 1923 and 1925. P.14413-R-34 is listed with other cards from album P.14413-R, although much of the Frampton MS relates to cards that are contained in album P.14416-R. For the Frampton MS, see P.14416-R-L1.
