Description

Sachet valentine by Robert Taylor of Manchester. White coated paper with decorative silver lithographed border and inset oval of chromolithographed garland with affixed embossed scrap of flower bouquet. The flower scrap lifts up to reveal a greeting printed below: 'THE COMPLIMENTS OF THE SEASON'. Printed along the left edge in silver ink: 'Robert Taylor Manchester'. The lower edge of the sachet is open and reveals the wad of tissue paper inside which would have been impregnated with perfume. There is a sachet valentine by Robert Taylor in the Laura Seddon collection at Manchester Metropolitan University which is post-marked 1868.
