Description

A very ornate 'raised' valentine composed of three layers: A top layer of silver embossed die-cut paper in a design incorporating classical urns and putti and with a central circular window. A gilt and pink embossed roundel of Cupid/?Christ affixed at upper centre and a collage of embossed cut-paper and hand-coloured flowers and fern fronds at lower centre. A large hand-coloured lithograph of a robin with artificial red grasses affixed behind at lower centre and framed by the central window. The silver top layer is attached with paper springs to a second layer of gilt embossed paper with lace elements, which is an elaborate scene of temples, trees, flowers and water with swans. This layer is affixed with paper springs to a third layer of plain embossed cream wove paper which is mounted with the coloured lithograph of morning glory flowers that is viewed through the central circular window. 'WOOD' is stamped on the third layer of embossed cream wove paper at lower centre. The back paper is missing.
