Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A fairly large 12mo-size card comprising white wove paper with an embossed border and scalloped edges. The back paper has been removed along the left edge. A slightly smaller gilt embossed lace-paper panel with central oval window is affixed at the centre, although carelessly positioned at an angle rather than properly centered, suggesting an amateur hand. The panel is decorated with scraps; flowers at upper left, flowers and a lyre at upper right and a medallion at lower centre with the motto: 'Remember me'. In the central oval window is a chromolithograph of a young girl in a green dress in an outdoor scene with chickens and a white dove (the image is similar to paintings by Charles Edward Perugini [1839-1918]) which is framed with a border of white embossed flowers with gilt detail. It is positioned slightly off centre.
