Affection's Offering Valentine card
Publisher: Dobbs, Henry
A large 4to-size valentine of white lace-paper with scalloped edges and central oval window, mounted on a sheet of white laid paper. A large embossed die-cut chromolithograph of a dark-haired winged putti wearing a pale blue tunic and carrying a basket of roses is mounted onto the white laid paper blind at the central window. At upper centre is a large embossed scrap of pink and yellow roses and leaves decorated with red and green foil 'glitter' with a printed motto on a scroll: 'To one I love.'. Affixed at lower centre is a large pink paper roundel with grey embossed border containing a printed verse: 'Affection's Offering / A faithful heart who can refuse, / An honest hand who would not / choose: / I offer both, you can't decline / To take me fo[r] [your] Valentine'. 'DOBBS' / 'KIDD & CO' stamped on the edges of the lace-paper at upper right and upper left. The back paper appears to have been cut away.
