Description

12mo-size white wove paper with waved 'solomonic' cameo-embossed border with dark yellow ground. At the centre are lithographed stems and leaves in green ink with applied cut-paper and hand-coloured leaves and a large, 'twist paper' passion flower, which can be pulled upwards into a 'raised' position. A similar flower is applied to P.14344-R-60. A lithographed motto in green ink is printed at lower centre: 'Content with thee'. A clipping from a sale catalogue is pasted to the album leaf below P.14414-R-19: '579 A very fine example of the cut out paper flower and leaf variety ... 183- / 5s 6d ...'. The clipping is from catalogue No. 34, dated 1923-4 of the bookseller, R.S. Frampton who was based at "Walton House", 37 Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park, London, N4. See Valentinesarchive12. Valentinesarchive13 is a duplicate catalogue with all pages intact which is useful for cross-referencing. Four of Frampton's catalogues were found in boxes containing Glaisher's valentines. A hand-written inscription in graphite on the album leaf above P.14414-R-19: 'Cat 34 / 5/6', would appear to confirm this. P.14414-R-20 has a similar lithographed design on paper with the same waved cameo-embossed border and is mounted on the same album leaf as P.14414-R-19.
