Valentine card
Publisher: Unknown
A home-made valentine consisting of a large 8vo sheet of thick cream card mounted with a large cut-out, hand-coloured lithograph of a red rose bud with a clump of purple and white violets growing at the base of the stem. A verse is written below in a calligraphic hand in black ink: 'Be violets in their secret mews / the flowers the wanton Zephyrs choose / Proud be the rose with rain and dews / her head impearling'. Below, in the same calligraphic hand but written in graphite: 'To my love'.
