Description

A home-made valentine consisting of a large 8vo sheet of pink wove paper mounted with several cut-outs of hand-coloured lithographs of insects, including moths, butterflies, bees, beetles and mayflies, which are pasted onto the paper in a circular arrangement. A panel of white wove paper with a shaped edge, hand-coloured in green is affixed at the centre. A window cut into the panel at the centre has a gauze blind which is mounted with a gold paper cornucopia filled with cut-paper coloured leaves and flowers. A decorative border of green and silver paper leaves and small red foil ornaments as flowers/berries is arranged around the edge of the gauze blind. A verse is lithographed onto the panel in blue ink at upper and lower centre: 'Affection is a heavenly boon / Which cannot be bestowed to soon'.
