Description

A white lace-paper front is mounted onto a larger sheet of yellow wove paper. A central panel is mounted with a collage of green and red silk leaves and hand-coloured cut-paper flowers with additional hand-painted stems, a small silver paper dove ornament with a ring in its beak above and paper scroll below with lithographed verse in gold ink: 'Speed on! Speed on! my gentle dove / And bear this ring away / To one that I sincerely love / On Cupid's gala day'. 'ADDENBROOKE' stamped at lower centre. 'Addenbrooke' is written in graphite on the yellow wove paper at lower right. The hand is recognisable as that of Miss Catherine Parsons and is seen in other albums throughout the collection documenting inscriptions, prices and maker's names. Catherine Parsons was a close friend of Glaisher towards the end of his life and undertook to arrange and mount his valentine collection into albums from the Autumn of 1924 through to the Summer of the following year and beyond.
